Job Description
Military Medical Examiner – Ministry of Defence - Pertemps Medical
Company: Pertemps Medical working on MoD Project
Job title: Military Medical Examiner
Contract: Initial 6 month contract with a view to extend
Base Salary: £60k (Dependent on experience)
Payment Type: PAYE
Contract type: Part-time
Hours: 08.00 – 17.30 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Start Date: July
Location: Exmouth (CTCRM Lympstone)
Position Overview:
Pertemps Medical is going through an exciting period of growth and change. We are seeking to add to our brilliant team.
Purpose of the Job:
The Military Medical Examiner is responsible for the safe, effective, and timely delivery of medical assessments for prospective Royal Marines recruits on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The purpose of these assessments is to determine whether candidates are medically suitable to be invited to commence Royal Marines training.
Job Overview:
The role begins with a comprehensive review of the candidate's Pre-Joining Health Questionnaire (PHCQ/PHCR) and optician's report. This initial assessment identifies any current or previous medical conditions that may affect the candidate's ability to safely perform the duties of a Royal Marine or that could be exacerbated by military service.
Candidates then attend a face-to-face medical assessment, during which the examiner discusses their medical history in greater detail and performs a thorough, non-intimate head-to-toe physical examination. This enables the clinician to assess the candidate's overall health and functional fitness for service.
Where a medical condition is identified that may affect a candidate's suitability for entry into the Royal Marines, the Military Medical Examiner will assess the available clinical information and determine the candidate's medical fitness for service in accordance with the relevant standards and guidance. Where a case is complex, borderline, or requires further specialist input, it may be referred to a senior Naval medical officer for advice and, where appropriate, a final determination regarding the candidate's medical fitness for service. The outcome is then communicated to the candidate in a timely and professional manner.
Full training is given in this process and reference material is provided to support the clinicians.
